INDEPENDENCE DAY ~ Yom HaAtzmaut ~
Yom HaAtzmaut is the celebration of the establishment of the modern state of Israel in 1948. It is observed on or near the fifth of the Hebrew month of lyar in the Hebrew calendar, which usually falls in April.
The festivities began the evening before, where Israelis takes to the streets across the country to watch fireworks, attend outdoor concerts, parties and barbecues. Friends and family gather the next day usually outdoors to continue the celebrations.
There is not yet an accepted “tradition” of how to celebrate this holiday. For Jews all over the world, joining with Israelis celebrating Yom HaAtzmmaut, has become a concrete link in the Jewish connection to the land of Israel!
Happy Independence Day!
